Yana Burova

International Concert Violinist /
Educator

Now based in Perth, Western Australia, Yana Burova brings with her an exceptional violin lineage that traces directly back to the legendary Carl Flesch (Yana Burova > Yfrah Neaman > Max Rostal & Carl Flesch). Her teacher, Yfrah Neaman, was a celebrated violinist and pedagogue who taught at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London from 1958.

After receiving a prestigious four-year scholarship to study under Professor Neaman, Yana graduated from Guildhall in 2004. Since then, she has performed at many of the UK’s most iconic venues, including Chelmsford Cathedral, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St John’s Smith Square, St Paul’s Cathedral, Leighton House Museum, and Kings Place—where she collaborated with the renowned Chilingirian Quartet. In 2013, she made her acclaimed debut at the Wigmore Hall.

Yana has participated in numerous festivals across England and Europe. A regular guest artist at the Varna International Summer Festival in her hometown, she performed two Vivaldi double concertos in 2016 with her brother, Dimitar Burov, and the Varna String Orchestra conducted by Plamen Djurov. She has also appeared at the Sofia Musical Weeks, and in November 2016 performed Dvořák’s Piano Quintet at Conway Hall alongside Ludmil Angelov, Dimitar Burov, Michael Gieler, and Gerard Le Feuvre as part of the 4th London Festival of Bulgarian Culture.

Her performances are frequently broadcast, and she has an impressive discography. In 2006, she released a CD featuring works for violin and piano by 20th-century Bulgarian composers. In 2011, she recorded the world premiere of Clarinet Quintet by Richard Rodney Bennett with her string quartet, Inspirity. The following year, she recorded Respighi’s Sonata in B minor for violin and piano with her long-time collaborator, pianist Fiametta Tarli.

Alongside her performing career, Yana has held teaching positions at several prestigious institutions, including Emanuel School, Eltham Church of England School, and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

We are incredibly fortunate to now have Yana based in Perth, where she continues to inspire as both a world-class performer and a dedicated violin pedagogue. She is currently accepting advanced-level students and teaches at several select private schools.
