Elise Chong


Completing her Bachelor of Music in Cello performance from the University of Western Australia, Elise has toured and performed in Europe, Asia and the USA as a cellist, conductor and educator.

She has recorded Beethoven and Mendelssohn piano trios for ABC Classic FM’s Young Australia program and was the recipient of the 1998 WA Citizen of the Year Syd Donovan Youth Arts Award and subsequently inducted into the Western Australian of the Year Hall of Fame honouring her significant contribution to the community.

Elise has trained in conducting programs run by Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra and Perth Symphony Orchestra and received conducting masterclasses from Alice Farnham (UK), Sian Edwards (UK) and Jane Glover (UK).

Elise has conducted the Perth Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Youth Orchestra, Ministry of Sound Orchestra, West Coast Philharmonic and Fremantle Symphony Orchestra. She has also worked with the WAAPA Symphony Orchestra, Perth Undergraduate Choral Society, WA Opera Young Artist singers, Orchestra Collective and WA Classical Music Connect. Elise makes her debut with the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra this year.

Elise is passionate about sharing her enthusiasm for music through teaching the next generation and is Co-ordinator of Strings at Perth College. She also runs her own online store called Cult Classical.
