Elise Chong
Passionate about building community through music, conductor and music educator Elise Chong is known for her expressive style of conducting and her enthusiasm for music both on and off the podium.
In 2020, Elise made her professional conducting debut with the Perth Symphony Orchestra, and has worked with most of Perth’s orchestras including the Metropolitan - Karrinyup Symphony Orchestra, Fremantle Symphony Orchestra, Ministry of Sound Orchestra, West Coast Philharmonic, WAAPA Symphony Orchestra and the West Australian Youth Orchestra organisation.
Completing her music studies in Cello performance at the University of Western Australia, Elise was an inaugural participant in both the West Australian Symphony Orchestra’s Emerging Conductors Program and Perth Symphony Orchestra’s Women on the Podium program.
Elise was inducted into the Western Australian of the Year Hall of Fame following the Western Australian Citizen of the Year Syd Donovan Youth Arts Award in 1998, honouring her significant contribution to the community,
An advocate for championing the music of under-represented composers, Elise is excited to shine a spotlight on neglected and forgotten masterworks for Perth audiences to experience and enjoy.
