Viola Scholarships 2026
Applications Close April 2nd 2026
MetSO Loves Viola!
The velvety voice of the Viola traditionally sits in the middle of most ensembles (string quartet / orchestral), but in the modern era it is oft coming to the fore, and being recognised in both its acoustic and electric form as a star in its own right - with its exquisite amber tones.
There has sometimes been a misconception that the viola is somehow a lesser cousin to the violin; but as was well articulated recently in a prominent Australian strings magazine, those in the know recommended Viola to be taken up by the strongest of our aspiring musicians.
We are pleased to offer 2 Viola Scholarships. The Scholarships will cover
Free loan of our instrument for 12 months (2 full size student instruments available - donated by the Charnley Family & Pauline Groom)
MetSO ensemble fees for 12 months (One of these wonderful ensemble scholarships kindly supported by AUSTA - the Australian Strings Assocation)
Applications are open to anyone in the community regardless of prior musical experience.
Applications close April 2nd 2026.
