Double Bass Scholarship 2024
The double bass is the lowest voice in many ensembles. It is a very versatile instrument, needed in just about every type of ensemble: orchestral, jazz, rock, pop, bluegrass, and more. Many double bass players easily cross-over to also play bass guitar.
Although these features make the double bass a desirable instrument to learn, the cost of hiring or buying a bass is greater than for other string instruments, making it prohibitive for many students.
We are pleased to offer a Double Bass Scholarship. The Scholarship will cover
Free loan of our instrument for 12 months
MetSO ensemble fees for 12 months
The MetSO Double Bass Scholarship instrument is
suitable for a person of
approximate age/size of 13-years+,
up to the average sized Adult.
Our Scholarship Double Bass is in practical terms a “full sized” instrument, which in double bass terms is termed a three-quarter instrument - at 5’ or 152cm in height. (N.B. An absolute full-sized double bass, at 5’9” or 175cm in height, is rarely seen outside of professional ranks, and is only suitable for a Large Adult)
Applications are open to anyone in the community regardless of prior musical experience.
