Kyle Garces

Kyle is a Perth-based bass baritone. While previously focusing on musical theatre under the tutelage of Mark Alderson and performing Hairspray, Legally Blonde and Guys & Dolls with Perth College, during his final years of high school he was convinced to switch focus to classical singing under the instruction of Ian Westrip OAM. And so it was that in 2021, he received his Bachelor of Music in Classical Vocal Performance from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. During this time, he was instructed by baritone Michael Lewis under the supervision of the Head of Opera and Vocal Studies, soprano Emma Matthews. Due to outstanding ATAR achievement he was awarded the WAAPA scholarship and in his third year, was given the Encouragement Award in the WA Opera Lover's Aria Prize.

As part of his degree, he performed as Frank in Die Fledermaus and Jupiter in Orpheus in the Underworld. In his final year, he had the opportunity to join Freeze Frame Opera's production of Gianni Schicchi. The highlight of his university time was being selected to perform in an elite masterclass given by the legendary Richard Bonynge AC CBE.

To complement his studies, Kyle pursued external performance opportunities. WIth OpusWA, he performed many choral works by the likes of Handel, Fauré, Vivaldi and Vaughn-Williams. With the Midnite Youth Theatre, he had the pleasure of performing the dual roles Rapunzel's Prince and the Mysterious Man in Sondheim's Into the Woods and he had the pleasure of originating the role of Silas Marner in the world premiere of the titular musical by John Taylor.

Since graduating Kyle has been a member of the West Australian Opera Chorus and recently he has co-starred in a concert production of La Serva Padrona put on by David Wickham, travelled to Albany, WA for a regional production of La Traviata by Jenna Robertson and recorded a selection of original pieces by Tony Noakes for his collection, "The Enclosed Garden."

Kyle will be stepping onto the MetSO stage for our Spring Event :
