Joshua Noronha


Joshua discovered his passion for the piano at the age of 7 and quickly made a name for himself, earning his L.Mus.A and LTCL (Distinction) diplomas by the age of 15 under the guidance of Yoon Sen Lee. He was awarded the prestigious Emily Reinhardt Scholarship for his Bachelor of Music degree at the Queensland Conservatorium, where he studied under Professor Oleg Stepanov. Joshua went on to complete his Honours degree at WAAPA.

Joshua established his reputation early, winning first prize at the 25th National Bernstein Junior Piano Competition in Melbourne at the age of 10. His growing recognition as an outstanding pianist has been further cemented through numerous top prizes and awards at competitions such as the Royal School of Music, Australian National Eisteddfod, Sydney Eisteddfod, Ipswich Eisteddfod, West Australian Pianists Competition, West Australian Music Teachers’ Association, Joondalup Eisteddfod, North of Perth Music Festival, South Suburban Music Eisteddfod, and Fremantle Eisteddfod. Joshua has also been honoured with several Audience Choice and Outstanding Performer awards, solidifying his place as a prominent figure in the Australian classical music scene.

Internationally, Joshua has achieved success in competitions worldwide, including top prizes at the Global International Piano Competition in Shenzhen, China, International Rotary Children’s Music Competition in Moscow, Russia, Lev Vlassenko International Internet Piano Competition and the American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition, which earned him an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York.

Joshua has performed at iconic venues across the globe, including Merkin Hall, Verbrugghen Hall, Kaufman Music Centre in New York, the Russian State Specialised Academy of Arts in Moscow, the Government House in Perth, as well as in Germany and the Netherlands. He has collaborated with prominent orchestras such as the Gnessin State Orchestra (Russia), Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Perth Symphony Orchestra, and WAAPA Symphony Orchestra. In 2023, he was invited as a Guest Showcase Artist for the Sydney International Piano Competition and was awarded the inaugural Young Musician of the Year by the Perth Symphony in 2024. He is also a Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra (MetSO) Young Artist for the 2026 season.

In addition to his international performances, Joshua has also performed extensively as a recitalist, presenting solo recitals at high-profile events such as the Beethoven Sonatas Marathon Recital at Government House Ballroom in Perth, Rising Stars – Music on the Terrace, the Royal School of Music Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations, and recitals at St John’s Cathedral in Brisbane and St George’s Cathedral Lunchtime Concerts in Perth.

Joshua has participated in masterclasses with some of the world’s most renowned musicians, including Behzod Abduraimov, Piers Lane, Natasha Vlassenko (OAM), Jayson Gillham, and Michail Markov (ArtEZ Conservatory, Netherlands), among others. He remains committed to his artistic growth and continues to contribute to the musical community both as a highly-decorated performer and teacher.
