Jeffrey Shield
Jeffrey Shield is an 11-year-old pianist from Perth, Western Australia, recognised for his exceptional musical maturity and remarkable achievements at a very young age.
Jeffrey began his piano studies at the age of 6 under the guidance of Dr Dobromila Jaskot. He is currently pursuing Fellowship Diploma–level piano studies under the mentorship of Ivy Chan at the Yoon Sen Lee Music School. He passed his first diploma-level examination with distinction at the age of 9, and by age 10, attained both the ATCL and LTCL Piano Performance Diplomas with Distinction from Trinity College London, placing him among the youngest pianists in Australia to achieve these qualifications.
Since 2024, Jeffrey has further refined his artistry through advanced masterclasses with Professor Giuseppe Modugno and Professor Vsevolod Dvorkin at the Vecchi-Tonelli Conservatory of Music in Modena, Italy. In 2025, he participated in masterclasses with Professor Dr Tonya Lemoh at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), Edith Cowan University, Australia. In 2026, he continues his artistic development in Imola with internationally renowned concert pianist Ingrid Fliter, Second Prize laureate of the 2000 International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw.
From February to March 2026, Jeffrey has a full schedule of European concerts and educational tours across the Netherlands, Italy, and Poland. He has been re-invited by the Vecchi-Tonelli Conservatory of Music in Modena, Italy, to present a multi-city concert tour including Bologna, Modena, and Casalecchio di Reno, as well as to participate in masterclass at the conservatory with Professor Christoph Sischka from Freiburg University, Germany. As a Grand Prix winner of the Paderewski International Piano Competition, Jeffrey has also been invited back to Poland to give concerts in Warsaw and to participate in masterclasses with renowned concert pianist Professor Bronisława Kawalla.
By the age of 11, Jeffrey had received over 80 prizes and awards in local and international piano competitions. Major honours include Grand Prix at the International Paderewski Piano Competition for Children and Youth (Poland, 2024); 4th Prize at the 31st International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Children and Youth (Poland, 2024); 1st Prize at the WPTA International Piano Competition (Spain, 2024); 1st Prize at the Orbetello International Online Piano Competition (Italy, 2025); 1st Prize in the Open Piano Concerto category and West Australian Pianist of the Year 2025 at the West Australian Pianists Competition (Perth, 2025); 1st Prize at the Open Championship Solo at the North of Perth Music Festival (Perth, 2025); 1st Prize at the Professor Geoffrey Lancaster Open Championship (Perth, 2025); and 1st Prize at Concerti at the Fremantle Eisteddfod (Perth, 2025). In 2026, multiple major prizes at the International Piano Competition Enschede (Netherlands), including 2nd Prize (awarded by the Jury), the Audience Prize (by public votes), and the Special Helena Prize (Best performance of the modern composition).
An experienced performer, Jeffrey has appeared in over 120 public concerts. Performance highlights include his solo recitals across the Netherlands, Italy, and Poland, including the Winners’ Concert at the International Piano Competition Enschede (Netherlands) and a major solo recital at Kawai Showroom Warsaw, organised by The Fryderyk Chopin Society Poland (February-March 2026); his debut of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Orchestra of the Conservatory of Modena, conducted by Maestro Matteo Parmeggiani, in Bologna and Modena, Italy (December 2025); concert tours in Warsaw and Toruń, Poland, including the International Chopin Competition for Children and Youth Winners’ Concert in Szafarnia (May 2024); a featured solo appearance at the WAGSMS Concert at Crown Theatre, Perth, performing for an audience of over 2,000 (May 2023); and a piano performance for Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison (March 2022).
In November 2025, Jeffrey participated in filming and interviews for the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition 50th Anniversary Documentary at the historic Steinway & Sons factory and showroom in Hamburg, Germany. In June 2025, he was featured in an onstage interview at the West Australian Pianists Competition award ceremony at the Richard Gill Auditorium, Edith Cowan University.
In June 2026, Jeffrey advanced to the semifinals of the prestigious Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and will travel to Salt Lake City, USA, to compete in one of the most significant and highly regarded piano competitions in the United States.
Jeffrey also values a balanced lifestyle and enjoys nature, travelling, cycling, walking, playing chess, solving Rubik’s cubes, and reading.
