Hannah Herriman - MISO / Avanti Music Director

Hannah is an active member of the Perth music community as a performer, instrumental teacher and ensemble director. As a violinist and violist she performs with a variety of groups including Australian Baroque, the Western Australian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Fremantle Chamber Orchestra and the Perth Symphony Orchestra.

In 2022 Hannah participated in Perth Symphony Orchestra’s Women on the Podium program for a weekend of workshops with mentoring from conductors including Alice Farnham, Jessica Gethin, Peter Moore and Elise Chong. She is also a keen chamber musician, and programs and performs recitals with the Orana String Quartet and the Tambora Piano Trio. Hannah was privileged to play as a soloist with the South Side Symphony Orchestra in 2014 under the direction of Christopher Dragon. She is an alumnus of the Australian Youth Orchestra and performed as a member of the AYO Momentum Ensemble in 2015 and 2019 directed by Sir Simon Rattle and Erin Helyard respectively.

Hannah completed her Bachelor of Music Performance at the University of Western Australia in 2014 studying with Semra Lee, where as a member of the Orana String Quartet she received the Margaret Bello Prize for chamber performance. She has a love of travel and has attended several summer academies in chamber, orchestral and solo performance in France, Canada, Spain and the Netherlands. In early 2019 she toured China with the Australian International Opera Company as Principal 2nd Violin in their production of Mozart’s ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’. Hannah began performing on baroque violin and viola after attending the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute in Toronto in 2018.

Hannah is a passionate teacher and enjoys tutoring violin and viola as well as directing several ensembles at St Mary’s Anglican Girls School and St Stephen’s School. She is immensely grateful for the opportunity to work with the wonderful musicians of the MISO/Avanti and MetSO community.
