MetSO Young Artist 2025 Caitlynn Cheng
Caitlynn Cheng embarked on her violin journey at the age of two, inspired by a captivating outdoor concert by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra at the Botanical Gardens. By four, she was accepted into the prestigious Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts’ School of Young Talents Programme, where she began her formal training under the guidance of Ms. Xu Jueyi.
In 2022, Caitlynn showcased her talent as a quarterfinalist in the Junior Category of the Singapore National Piano and Violin Competition. Her musical prowess earned her an invitation to perform at the Night for Light Festival 2023, held at the esteemed Victoria Concert Hall. She has also had the privilege of participating in masterclasses with renowned violinists such as Yin Ke, Lucilla Rose, and other distinguished artists.
In 2024, Caitlynn relocated to Perth to further her musical education, now studying under the tutelage of Mr. Riley Skevington. She actively engages with like-minded musicians as a member of the West Australian Youth Orchestra. Notably, at just 12 years old, Caitlynn was accepted into the Australian Youth Orchestra’s Young Symphonists program and attended the camp in Canberra in September 2024. She has been selected for the same program again in 2025. This year, Caitlynn will make her solo debut with the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.
Caitlynn performs with a modern violin crafted by Paolo Vettori and a Sakura Bow made by Pierre Guillaume. Beyond her musical pursuits, she enjoys debating, surfing, tennis, and travelling.
Caitlynn will be stepping onto the MetSO stage for our Summer Event :
