Redwood

Beth Redwood is a Perth born soprano who has recently completed her Bachelor of Music at WAAPA majoring in Classical Voice studies. She is passionate about the arts and keen for the opportunity to perform and learn from her peers and industry professionals.

Beth’s operatic highlights include her portrayal of Gretel in WAAPA’s Hansel and Gretel, the Countess in OpusWA’s production of Le Nozze di Figaro, Adina in L’elisir d’Amore and Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, both also with OpusWA. During her time at WAAPA Beth performed as Edith and understudied the role of Ruth in their production of The Pirates of Penzance, and featured in the ensemble of Orpheus in the Underworld.

Beth also enjoys performing choral music and been a featured soloist in many choral productions with OpusWA, Perth Symphonic Chorus, Perth Lyric Chorale and The Mapstone Scholars. Memorable performances include Beethoven’s “Choral Fantasia” at Government House Ballroom, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Dona Nobis Pacem,” and Bach’s “Wachet Auf,” along with numerous Opera Galas and countless performances of ‘Faure’s Requiem” and Handel’s “Messiah.” On a number of occasions, Beth has toured to regional areas of WA with these groups to help bring classical music to more remote areas.

Beth loved performing with the Vienna Pop’s orchestra in their popular New Year’s Eve Gala at the Perth Concert Hall last year. Just a few weeks earlier she also performed to two sold out audiences at the Quarry Amphitheater in a local Carols by Candlelight.

In 2022 Beth competed in the North of Perth Music Festival where she was honoured to win Most Outstanding Senior Vocalist. In the same year she was asked to perform at the Launch of WAAPA’s prestigious Taryn Fiebig Award. Beth has also dipped her toes into the world of Musical Theatre. She has portrayed Sandy in Grease and was involved in the chorus of “Chess the Musical” when it toured to Perth.

Aside from her blossoming career on stage, Beth is also passionate about conducting and music education. She has been teaching voice and piano for almost a decade out of her private studio and at local primary schools. Following her conducting training under Micheàl McCarthy at university, she now directs choral ensembles with the Australian Girl’s Choir, West Australian Opera and at Newman College. Beth sings regularly as a chorister at The Church of the Resurrection in Swanbourne and is also an active board member for OpusWA

Beth is thrilled to be a Young Artist with the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra this year and is very excited for what the year will hold. Beth is positive and looking forward to her future in music and has aspirations to study a masters in opera performance in the UK.
